PCT (Patient Care Technician)

Job description

The ideal candidate PCT – Patient Care Tech – will have a background in care and nursing, with a compassionate nature and drive to improve the lives of others. The PCT will be responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of our patients and assisting patients with their daily and therapeutic tasks. This may include monitoring vital signs, collecting samples, or assisting the patient in movement. The position also requires administering medications and helping patients with life skills such as eating, bathing, and dressing.

Patient Care Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

· Ensure patient rooms are clean and sanitized

· Change patient bed linens and provide new bedding, blankets, and pillows

· Collect urine and blood samples for testing

· Monitor and record patient daily activities; report any drastic changes to a nurse or physician

· Perform nursing procedures such as administering medications, changing bandage dressing, or checking temperatures

· Ensure patients are comfortable in bed; adjust bed settings and/or reposition/turn patient as needed

· Help patients with all grooming habits including bathing, dressing, brushing hair, etc.

· Assist patient with any daily exercises, physical therapy, or mobilization efforts patient has been prescribed

· Transport patients via wheelchair or rolling bed

· Monitor patient vital signs and record weight, blood pressure, and pulse

· Ensure patients are getting enough food and fluids

· Counsel, listen and educate patients and patients’ families on health concerns, questions, or suggestions

· Ensure patients’ safety and remove any safety hazards (clear walkways, cleaning chemicals, etc.)

· Transport and use medical equipment according to patient requirements

· Follow all organization, state, and federally mandated medical standards and procedures

· Ensure patient confidentiality by following all HIPAA rules and regulations

Patient Care Technician Requirements and Qualifications

· Completion of a patient care technician certificate program; certificated and licensed to work in state; higher-level degree in nursing a plus

· Able to perform CPR; trained to perform nursing duties such as measuring vital signs, drawing, blood, etc.

· Strong desire to help people and improve their daily lives

· Compassionate and sensitive to patients’ needs and concerns

· Strong knowledge of basic medicine and operating medical equipment

· Able to stand, kneel, and move during the length of shift; ability to lift up to 30 pounds; able to assist patients in and out of beds, chairs, and other seated positions

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Basic computer and record-keeping skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract, Temporary

Pay Rate: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour
